A shape-shifting orb takes on the form of a rock before eventually becoming a wolf in a snowy wasteland and meeting a boy living alone in a village.

In the village of Ninannah, five-year-old girl March can't wait to grow up. An official from the neighboring land arrives to preside over a ritual.

March gives the boy a name: Fushi. Meanwhile, as Parona tries to escape from her bonds, a massive bear appears before her captors and attacks.

After living in solitude on an island for nearly 40 years, Fushi encounters a young girl who says she is the descendant of someone he once knew.

Without revealing her name, Tonari asks Fushi to show her the faces of the people he has met so far. Later, Fushi finds Hisame in the woods.
