The king’s sister, Kikoe Okimi, sees through Neion’s charade. Neion is driven from the court and ordered to pass royal secrets to the Satsuma Domain.

In despair, Neion throws herself off a cliff, but is saved by Asakura, a Satsuma official who met her as a girl. They vow revenge against Kikoe Okimi.

Neion manages to banish Kikoe Okimi from the court. As she investigates opium in the court, she is suddenly demoted, but it’s part of the king’s plan.

Qing Dynasty eunuch Jo Teigai gets close to Neion and figures out she’s a woman. The king suddenly dies, and Jo Teigai plots to take over the kingdom.

Neion is exiled to Yaeyama which is then bombarded by a Western fleet. She is desperate to get back to the court to warn them of the impending threat.

Neion returns to the palace as a woman and is chosen as a concubine. She panics at being unable to return as Neion and is flustered by Asakura’s love.

Commodore Perry arrives in Naha demanding an audience with the king. As Asakura tightens his guard, Perry lands and trains cannons on the castle gate.

Mazuru begins a double life as a concubine and as Neion. As friction grows between the Qing and Satsuma factions, Asakura seeks to get Mazuru back.
